Definition of deep well and shallow well

What is a deep well and what is a shallow well?
A well that gets its water from 25 feet or deeper is a deep well.
This is because the shallow well pump can suck up water from a maximum of 22 feet or, in theory, up to 25 feet.
We recommend you not to use a shallow well pump to work near its maximum suction height described in the pump's specification, as the efficiency drops significantly or sometimes it may lose its prime. In general, a shallow well pump should only be used for up to 20 feet of suction to be safe.

For other reasons, some people may use another standard when differentiating a shallow well from a deep well; they say that a deeper than 100 feet well is a deep well, and less than 100 feet is a shallow well. You can use either standard to fit your needs.
