Should I use a shallow well pump or a deep well pump?
A decade ago, people used a shallow well jet pump if the depth to water is 20 feet or less.
As time changed, you can now choose a proper submersible pump for all domestic water systems, unless your well casing is too small to fit a 4" or a 3" submersible pump. Thanks to the lower prices of 4" submersible pumps and the ever increasing electricity prices that drives buyers to choose more efficient pumps -- the submersible pumps.
However, the majority of people are still using a shallow well jet pump for up to 20 feet of depth. This is mainly because they first install a jet pump and replacing another one is more straightforward for them. On the other hand, the deep well JET pump, used for up to 100 feet, is now rarely used, being replaced by the submersible pumps. You will pull your hair in frustration at trying to service a deep well jet pump with priming issues.
Replacing a jet pump with a submersible pump can save you much on your electricity bill in the years to come. Submersible pump is very quiet, you don't even notice its existence.
